The man J.A. Kufuor as I know

BY: Kwesi Biney

‘We know the cost of everything but not the value.’ This statement from former President Kufuor guided my tenure of office as a DCE for the Ahanta West in our developmental objectives.

I had known Mr Kufuor in opposition and interviewed him a number of times as a journalist but his real persona and thoughts for Ghana became more illuminating as a President.

He kept cautioning us MMDCEs to work hard for our people to remember us for the good things we left behind long after our tenure.

He cautioned us against arrogance, corruption and preached honesty and humility towards those we led. His fairness and firmness were remarkable.

In my opinion, there is no better testimonial in my life than when on the October 12, 2006, in his office and before two ministers of state and my MP, he rejected my resignation from office and ordered me to go back and do my job because he knew the good work I was doing.

I wish him good health and long life. Prosperity to him is not material, but more wisdom and guidance for us.
