Seven types of help a leader needs - Dag Heward-Mills

There are so many things that a leader may not be able to accomplish alone or by himself. It is for this reason that God sends people our way to help us do what we are called to do. A leader is expected to come to terms with his own limitations.

Unfortunately, many people do not even accept that they need help from others. Dear leader, you must recognise your need for help! You need help because you are limited. Every leader has limitations. God did not make leaders into supermen. Even Jesus knew when His time was up. He knew when it was time for the Comforter to take over.

He began to speak of the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit, to the disciples. He promised that the Comforter would make a great difference in their lives.

Unfortunately, the disciples could not believe that there could be a better substitute for Jesus.

“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” John 16:7

Many leaders do not realise when it is time for them to leave the scene. Many leaders are not prepared to accept that other leaders with different talents are needed. There are some pastors who lack administrative and management skills.

If you do not employ the services of the appropriate people, your ministry may crumble. Do not try to impress people by simply denying your limitations and your subsequent need for help.

You will be rewarded for fulfilling your calling. You will not receive a heavenly award for impressing human beings.

“And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.” Luke 16:15

The admiring smiles of people around you have no influence on the opinions of your Heavenly Father. That is why I do not really care what others think about me. Because I am human, it occurs to me that people may find me weird. But what does it matter? Don’t try to be a superman just to impress people. Accept your limitations and recognise your need for help. As long as you are human, there are many times that you will need to be helped and there are many types of help that you may need.

Seven types of help a leader needs

You need the help of the Lord

If the Lord does not help you, who can help you?
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.” Psalms 28:72.

You need the help of a wife

In spite of the problems associated with marriage and divorce, a wife is a key player to help every man accomplish his life’s vision and purpose. “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help-meet for him.” Genesis 2:18

You need the help of the Holy Spirit

Without the help of the Holy Spirit no one can be holy, no one can do what is right and no one can be a good person.

“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, THE HELPER shall not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.” John 16:7 (NASB)

You need the help of a helps minister

Without the help of the helps minister, the ministries of apostles, pastors and prophets begin to plateau and fade away. The helps minister is the key to an ever-increasing ministry of fruitfulness.

“And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.” 1 Corinthians 12:28

You need the help of technology

Technology is a great assistance to those who recognise its usefulness. My entire ministry is greatly helped by modern technology.

“And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones. And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.” 2 Chronicles 26:14-15.

You need the help of a neighbour

Your neighbour who is near you is more valuable than your relative who is far away. “They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.” Isaiah 41:6

You need the help of nature

The terrain, the land, the weather and nature are able to fight against your purpose and cause your defeat and destruction. You must be careful of the role that nature plays in your very life.

“And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.” Revelation 12:16

Dear leader, do not try to please people anymore! Try to please the Lord. When it is time for others to play their roles, allow them to. Do not stifle others. See yourself as building the Kingdom of God and enhancing the Body of Christ. Recognise that you cannot do everything. Allow others to play their roles. They will be blessed and so will you! Moses allowed 70 other men to help him in the ministry. That decision certainly prolonged his life. When Jesus called for the services of the Comforter, he was not acknowledging defeat. Do you consider yourself to be a great leader? Recognise your limitations!
