It is September - World Tourism Day celebration stares
Ghana joins the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) member countries to commemorate World Tourism Day on September 27th, 2021 on the global theme: “Tourism for inclusive growth” to be hosted at Hohoe in the Volta Region.
The purpose of the yearly celebration is to raise awareness on the role tourism plays within the world space and the enormous socio-cultural, political, and economic bearings worldwide.

Ghana has been a part of this celebration over the years to heighten awareness on the contribution of tourism to national development and demonstrated the ability of its tourism sector to generate adequate revenue, create employment and reduce poverty at the national level as prescribed by the global theme which hinges on addressing global challenges captured in the 2030 agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals.
The UNWTO celebrations by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture offers the Ministry the opportunity to showcase Ghana’s tourism potentials in the various regions, districts, and communities to put Ghana on the tourism map for patronage of investors and tourists.
Planning activities regarding this year’s celebration has started speedily with activities such as tree planting exercises, durbars, and Public Private Partnership (PPP) forums among other interesting events under strict adherence of the Covid-19 protocols.
Ghana hosted this event in 2009 which inured to the country a lot of benefits including boosting the country’s international image and giving it a worldwide publicity, attracting investors especially in the provision of tourism structures and services while boosting GDP.
Ivory Coast takes its turn this year with possible prospects that might trickle down to Ghana being our neighbor with increased tourist arrivals and consequently improving their GDP as well as generating wealth through job creation and income generation especially in the rural communities where tourist attractions sites are situated.
Tourism remains central in Ghana’s development hence the need for Ghanaians to follow, participate and support this activity to attain the desired goals for the national good.
