The 33-year-old school, with a student population of 2,038, is situated in the heart of three towns, Denu, Hedzranawo and Adafienu.
The school houses the boys on its compound at Hedzranawo, while the girls, who constitute about half of the student population, walk to their dormitory, which is about a kilometre away; they do this three times daily, including weekends, exposing them to dangers
Unfortunately, girls have to make this journey with pans of food, which are prepared in the school, on their heads.
Considering the dangers that these girls are exposed to, can’t there be any arrangements for the food to be cooked at the girls’ dormitory or a bus provided to carry the food and the girls to the school? The Ghana Education Service, Municipal Assembly, Parent-Teacher Association, stakeholders, do we have to wait for any disaster before we take action? A stitch in time saves nine.
