Forward with GHAMRO
At long last, the battle for supremacy at the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) ended last Wednesday, when GHAMRO held its first election after many years. At the end, highlife musician, Kojo Antwi, was elected as GHAMRO’s first official chairman.
With the election of a new board in place, it is the expectation of many that the disagreements that had bedevilled GHAMRO especially in the last year will end for the good of the organisation as well as the welfare of its members.

GHAMRO is the only approved copyright collective management organisation for music works in the country and just as we congratulate the newly elected board members, we hope this is a new beginning for the organisation.
It behoves on the newly elected board members especially the Chairman to prove the worth of the confidence reposed in them by the about 3,700 members who cast their votes to see them in their new position.
One of the criticisms levelled against the old Carlos Sakyi -led administration, was how the board managed the affairs of the organisation without the consent or the opinions of the members who they were representing and whose interests the board was supposed to serve.
But with a new board in place, we hope the new administration will seek the opinions of their members and not just use their offices for personal gain and repeat the very things for which people accused their predecessors of and called for elections to be held.
Copyright and royalties are very important and dear to the hearts of any artiste who does music commercially and as such, the welfare of GHAMRO members should be their supreme interest as they take office and put an end to the long years of litigation.
