Made In Ghana-UK festival launch flies on wings of music
Musician and Made-in-Ghana ambassador Okyeame Kwame found an appropriate forum in the recent launch of the 2022 Made in Ghana-UK (MIGHUK) Festival to perform material from his Made In Ghana album.
Music was a key ingredient at the launch, which was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Accra, with Dancehall artiste Jupitar and the Patchbay Band also performing while traditional drumming and dancing helped enhance the atmosphere at the programme.
The Made In Ghana-UK Festival is scheduled for March 2022 in London and is expected to bring together over 5,000 visitors to patronise Ghanaian products and services, while enjoying rich Ghanaian culture and entertainment over a two-day period.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mr Thomas Mbomba, who launched the festival, appealed to everyone connected with organising the festival to put in their best to help strengthen Ghana’s position as a land of industrious, culturally aware people.
Acting President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons, said the music aspect of the festival was a great opportunity to promote and highlight Ghanaian music and musicians.
He pointed out that the future of Ghanaian music, especially Highlife, was bright and urged musicians to take advantage of the platform the festival offers to promote it.
For her part, MIGHUK’s Head of Communications, Afua Boamah Addo, said the event will focus on helping small and medium-scale businesses in Ghana and the UK unleash their post-pandemic business strategies which would be driven by the best of Ghanaian entertainment.
According to her, categories of items to be exhibited include arts and crafts, apparel and clothing, food and beverages, entertainment and media, fashion and beauty, agriculture, business services, information technology, wellness and health, hospitality, travel and tourism as well as banking and finance.
There would be a series of pre-festival activities to help prepare participants, exhibitors and creatives on taking advantage of the festival to amplify their businesses.
Further details of the festival, including headline artistes, will be unveiled at a UK launch of the event at the Kensington Town Hall in London on September 25, 2021.
The Made In Ghana-UK Festival is being organised by the Made In Ghana-UK Ltd, Showbiz Africa, OK Music, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Ghana High Commission in London.
Partners include MUSIGA, Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and the National Commission on Culture (NCC).
