If it's about relevancy, I won’t be having nominations now - Tic to critics

Hip-life artiste, Nana Kwaku Okyere Duah popularly known as Tic Tac, now called Tic, has defended his earlier position, where he had called on industry players to give every single artiste a chance when booking for shows.

According to him, Ghanaians should accept his views in good faith and not assume his opinions are always about his personal interest.

“I am from an era that people should give me the benefit of the doubt. When I talk about our industry, people should take it in good faith, it’s not about me… this is something that I have been around for over 25 years, that is not a joke. If I feel that there is something stifling our industry, I should able to speak freely,” he said.

Speaking on Accra-based Hitz FM on Wednesday, Tic said he has the right to express his opinions on matters effecting the music industry in Ghana like other musicians do, saying “I am one of the few people that have the ticket or the right to talk about the industry" like Reggie, Obrafour, VVIP, Kojo Antwi, and Daddy Lumba.

The 'Kwani Kwani' hit maker however refuted claims by critics of being irrelevant and needed some attention from his statements on the industry, arguing that “When we talk about relevancy, I understand it to the core because I’m a proven record of what relevancy should be in rap for a country like Ghana where it's not even easy to cross to ….”

Tic added “If it's about relevancy, you can’t tell me that I’m out of it for the last quarter, I’m back big, but that is not what I’m talking about…."

The  further maintained that he's still relevant in the industry despite his long absence from the limelight.

“I have performed a lot and I have shows coming up. I have had nominations I haven’t had for a while...its not secret. If it's about relevancy, I won’t be having all that nominations I'm getting now.”
