Ghana needs structures to make musicians happy - Gasmilla

Hiplife artiste Odartei Milla Lamptey popularly known as Gasmilla has appealed to the leaders in the music industry to institute measures to help promote the well-being of musicians in Ghana.

The measures, he explained, will help secure the future of musicians and their dependents in times of unforeseen circumstance.

According to him, instituting measures for the well-being of musicians will help to prevent situations where artistes come out to beg for help from the public when they are faced with some difficulties.

"When we hear some old musicians are sick, we have to contribute money for them...why don’t we contribute that money when the person is shooting his or her videos  and making sure that there are structures to make the person better after serving you [Ghanaians] for years,” he said.

Gasmilla, A.K.A "International Fisherman", said this while Speaking on Accra-based Hitz FM on Thursday, April 11, this year.

The International Fisherman observed that musicians in advanced countries were leaving better lives due to the structures that exist in those countries.

“Bob Marley died how many years ago, his kids are still enjoying their lives. They don’t need to do music ever in their lives, all because of the structures", he explained.

The ‘Telemo’ hit maker also wondered why the leaders in the Ghanaian music industry have delayed in coming out with a similar intervention.

“What does it takes to have structures in Ghana? We need structures to make the musicians happy while they are alive. A country like Ghana, we don’t have structures for musicians, “he said.
