Fire outbreak brings pain to my family - Beverly Afaglo

The afternoon of Monday, August 9 is one that will always be remembered with pain by actress, Beverly Afaglo and her family. It was the day fire razed down their three-bedroom house located in Tema Community Nine.

After receiving distress calls from neighbours about her house being on fire, the mother of two, who was in town, rushed home to the heart-wrenching spectacle of her home completely destroyed.

Sounding very distraught in a telephone conversation with the Graphic Showbiz, the actress said the incident had brought her family a lot of pain.

"I have no choice than to depend on God to see me through but truthfully, it's been very hard for me and my family. It’s more devastating to know that all your hard work has gone down the drain in just a few minutes and you have to start all over again."

I just can't explain how I feel now, it feels like a dream but it's real. So many questions have been running through my head but I'm very thankful there were no deaths. I take lots of solace from that because it could have been worse," she stated.

For now, Beverly, her two daughters and her mother are all lodging with her older sister.

Beverly narrated that it was started by a fire lit in the backyard of her residence at around 2 p.m on that day. Though the fire was put out, it seemed it was not done well enough, causing it to reignite due to strong winds blowing at the time. It quickly spread, catching the attention of neighbours who immediately raised alarm.

Even though the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly, the intense smoke blocked visibility when they arrived and they called for backup. The backup team arrived about 40 minutes later but could also not do much since the generator they use during operations as an emergency power source, was faulty, and called for a third team.

However, by the time the third team arrived, the fire had gutted and destroyed furniture, electrical gadgets and personal belongings. They couldn't salvage anything. Unfortunately, her home was not insured and Beverly pointed out that she had learnt a great lesson.

"It's a lesson, I don't have anything, no plans yet. I'm still processing everything that has happened," she stated.

Beverly’s husband, Eugene Baah popularly known as Choirmaster of Hiplife group Praye fame, was not around as he is currently in the United States. He, however, wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, August 10, that in all things, they gave thanks to God.
