A press statement issued and signed by the Deputy Director at the W.E.B Dubois Centre, Akofa Dokosi, said the purpose of the event is to promote African fashion and clothing and textile industry.

Similarly, she added, the programme will offer a platform to the final year students of the Fashion Department of the Accra Technical University to showcase their creativity in fashion, particularly in African wear.

The AU, formerly the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), was founded on May 25, 1960, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as a result of the collective quest by African leaders at the time to work together in seeking the political emancipation of the African continent from the shackles of colonialism and the ills of imperialism.

Ghana’s first Prime Minister and President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, was one of the Founding Fathers of the OAU.
