Benefit concert for Pan African Museum tonight

Rapper Okyeame Kwame has expressed his excitement at sharing the stage with two of Ghana’s best Highlife artistes, Pat Thomas and Bessa Simons.

The three artistes will be performing at a concert at the +233 Jazz Bar & Grill tonight as part of fundraising activities for the Pan African Heritage World Museum (PAHW) founded by Hon. Kojo Yankah.

According to the Made In Ghana hitmaker, it is an honour that he gets to perform alongside the two veterans.

“These are two legends who have performed on the biggest stages around the world so it will be a real pleasure sharing the stage with them,” he told the Daily Graphic.

With all three artistes performing live, patrons are in for a great time at the show, which will run from 7 p.m to 11 p.m, while supporting a good cause.

PAHW objective
President Akufo-Addo recently cut the sod for the construction of the Pan African Heritage World Museum, which is to be sited at Pomadze Hills, near Winneba in the Central Region.

The museum complex, estimated to cost over $50 million, will host galleries and a theatre, heroes/heroines park, African herbal plant farm with chalets, international community centre for concerts, festivals, youth meetings and games, a palace of African kingdoms, residential accommodation, helicopter landing pad, parking and other facilities.

Hon. Kojo Yankah, who is also the Executive Director of the museum, said its purpose was to bridge the gap between Africans and people of African descent who had been separated for too long.

For Okyeame Kwame, who is the Cultural Ambassador for the museum, it is an important project that needs the support of all.

“I think it’s an amazing initiative. Often when people of African descent visit Ghana, they go to our forts and castles and cry at the treatment their ancestors received and while that is all good, it is just about 50 per cent of the work done.

“We need to highlight the great things we have done, the artefacts and history and that is what this museum seeks to do. I believe it will become a pilgrimage for all the children of Jacob. It is going to house all the old African empires and buildings which will be just like they were in times past.

“As an artiste, I have a major responsibility to hold our heritage and culture of my people high. I have to tell the story of my culture and that is why I am excited about this project. And being made a cultural ambassador is truly special and I am very honoured.”

The concert will see intermittent presentations on the purpose of the museum, among others. “It will be a semi virtual concert meaning there will be a selected audience at the +233 while others can watch online. And of course, we will observe all the social distancing protocols,” Okyeame Kwame stated.
