Myra Kay takes it Personal

She has lived most of her life in the US but her love for her home country has seen Afropop artiste, Myra Kay, pushing her music career here.

In April this year, she released her debut Dance the Night Away which was also her introduction to the Ghanaian music scene.

Inspired by the good reviews she received, the 20-year old is determined to work harder to become one of the best in the industry.

She is, however, conscious of the uphill battle female artistes face and how easily they seem to fall by the wayside.

She tells Showbiz that it was a worry to her as most of those she admired like Raquel, Efya, Eazzy and Becca aren’t commanding as much attention compared to their male colleagues in recent times.

“I don’t want to sound bitter but I think we aren’t helping our female artistes. Already, the odds are against you as a female artiste. You need to work much harder for people to appreciate your talent over your body.

“After much work, you only taste fame for a short time because the support system for the ladies is weak. To survive, you need to prove beyond all doubts that you are good but that’s not same for the guys,” she said.

Doing music had been her childhood dream and now, Myra Kay, born Myra Kyeremeh is excited as she pursues the ambition.

As she puts it, the system may not be favourable for her likes but that isn’t enough to discourage her since she will be releasing her second single, Personal, on Friday November, 10.

Produced by Genius Selection, Personal is off her Extended Play (EP) record which is set to be released by the end of the year.
