Lady Jay sings about ordeal on new single 'Social Media'

Musicians are often inspired by their experiences which reflect in their songs and that is exactly what Italy-based Ghanaian singer Lady Jay has done with her new single Social Media.

According to Lady Jay, her experiences on social media which made her depressed, played a role in the composition of Social Media, which was released on Friday, May 28.

In a interview with Berla Mundi on TV3's New Day, Lady Jay disclosed that she was assaulted by her former manager and when she lodged a complaint with the Ghana Police Service and subsequently the Ministry of Gender, they failed to address her issues.

The singer added that she resorted to social media to share her troubles but experienced the ugly side of it when she was constantly trolled leading to her being depressed.

In another interview with presenter MzGee, Lady Jay stated that, "people who don't know you, by just watching your social media think they know everything about you. I came up with Social Media to basically shine light on the fact that not everything on social media is necessarily real."

Aside the cyberbullying, Lady Jay also highlighted some of the advantages of social media saying, "we can all be happy, we can laugh, we can enjoy watching other people's videos without the negativity."
