Kwaw Kese cautions against ‘Envy’

Award winning Hiplife artiste, Kwaw Kese has always stoked controversy with some of his statements about the music industry and it seems he will not be stopping anytime soon.

In his latest song titled, Envy, the 2008 VGMA Artiste of the Year takes on his colleagues for not supporting one another, a situation he says is crippling the industry.

Produced by Ronny Turn Me Up, the song is directed at those who hate others because of their success.

The Afropop piece, which sees the Abodam artiste bare all his feelings, chides those whose selfish actions are stalling the industry’s progress. It also encourages his colleagues to do things that will benefit their craft and the industry as a whole.

Envy has come at a time when the music industry is witnessing some tension with some leading artistes ‘beefing.’ Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, has been involved in a war of words with Hiplife group, VVIP and recently, a member, Prodigal replied him with some harsh words. Then there is the tension between Tic Tac and Shatta Wale which saw the former walk out of a TV interview recently.

And such unfortunate happenings which affect unity in the music industry are what Kwaw Kese addresses on Envy which was officially released last week.

In an interview with Showbiz on Monday, Kwaw Kese said the need to grow a strong industry inspired his new piece.

“Why the need for competition? The industry is big enough for everyone to survive. The unnecessary hatred and ‘pull him down’ isn’t the best. We have many talents and with unity, there will be progress. There’s no need to hate on others for no reason,” he said.

Known in real life as Emmanuel Botwe, Kwaw Kese shot to fame with Odem in 2008 and has since thrilled Ghanaians with songs like Nonsense, Poppin, Monkey Dey Work, Who be You, Yakubu, Ataa Ayi, Aseda, Mr Lover Lover, Wonkoa and Massa I Beg.
