Merck Foundation announces creative arts awards

The foundation, during its 8th African Luminary organised virtually last month, announced awards schemes targeted at musicians, fashion designers and film makers across Africa

The Merck Foundation “More than a Mother” Fashion, Music and Film Awards is to encourage creatives in these sectors to use their works to break the stigma around infertility and raise awareness of infertility prevention and empowering girls and women through education.

Under the fashion awards, 10 winners will be selected and offered $500 each to execute their design concepts.

The winner, first runner-up and second runner-up in the music competition would be awarded with $1000, $700 and $500 respectively.

The top three winners in the film category would also walk away with$1000, $700 and $500.

According to Dr Rasha Kelej, the CEO of the foundation, the arts and media played an important role in addressing issues and the foundation was committed to assisting them in achieving their aim, saying “ I strongly believe in the important role the arts play in influencing our society to create a cultural shift.
