“The gospel arena is like a family. We are expected to be role models for society so we care about each other,” Sir Gabby told The Mirror.

The eight-track album focuses on humility as a vital character trait for Christians and Sir Gabby generally employs the songs on it to exalt God for goodness to mankind.

‘Mebre Meho Ase’ is the singer’s third album after Aseda (2008) and Ebenezer (2014). The songs in the collection are mostly in the highlife vein and the arrangements are well-executed to pull listeners to dance.

Sir Gabby, who describes himself as born into the Methodist Church, has a degree in Graphics from the University of Education, Winneba.

His Methodist background obviously influenced him to include some well-known Methodist hymns on the album.

He does a slow take on ‘I Will Sing The Wondrous Story’ (MHB 380) and uses it to showcase his singing ability. His renditions of ‘Will Your Anchor Hold’ (HMB 634) and ‘Head of the Church Triumphant’ (MHB 411) are upbeat and inspiring.

Apart from him on lead vocals, there are charming contributions from other singers like Obaapa Christy, Shee, Francis Amo, Esther Goodwill and Ruth Agyei.

High-profile instrumentalists on the project include Akablay and Dominic Quachie (guitar), Dan Grahl (electric bass), Francis Osei (drums) and Osei Tutu (trumpet).

On the whole, the album is a sprightly collection of songs which many, especially Methodists, will love to hear over and over again.
