The 12th Ghana tourism awards held

She said this at the 12 edition of the Ghana Tourism Awards, which came off at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra on Friday, November 18.

She announced that with the signing of the deal, Ghana would be promoted on CNN as a preferred tourist destination to both foreigners and the Ghanaian market.

Also at the event, Mrs.Ofosu Adjare called for the promotion of domestic tourism among the youth of the country. She pointed out that there was a huge domestic tourist market that was yet to be touched and praised media institutions such as Joy FM and Citi FM for their initiatives in boosting domestic tourism in the country.

“In Ghana, tourism is a major pillar of the economy and expected to be one of the key drivers of our socio-economic transformation through the creation of jobs, foreign exchange receipts, urban regeneration and the stimulation of local manufacturing to meet diverse needs of the sector,”she said.

Friday’s award focused on the three northern regions of the country and the occasion was used to exhibit tourists’ sites and locations from those regions as a way of projecting the tourism potential to the rest of the country.

In his message, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Gideon Aryeequaye said subsequent award programmes will feature particular regions at a time and asked stakeholders to buy into the idea and support efforts of the Ghana Tourism Authority by stepping up the momentum for marketing the authority.

“As we set aside to celebrate individuals and institutions in the tourism industry who have contributed immensely to the development and promotion of Ghana Tourism, I take this opportunity to congratulate both nominees and awardees and hope this recognition spurs them on to do even better,” he said.

Among the award winners of the night were Zaina Lodge, which won the Exemplary Award for Ecotourism Development, Sunseekers Tours won the award for Tour Operator of the Year, Serv Air Ghana won the award for Airline Catering Institution of the Year, Eurostar Limousines won the Car Rental Institution of the Year, PaJohn Dadson won the award for Tourism Journalist of the year. 

Among performers on the night were Wiyaala, Nana Yaa whose energetic and electric performances had many in the audience on their feet. Poet Nana Asaase was also on hand to entertain patrons.

Among the audience were some notable personalities including John Dumelo, Fuse ODG, Abeiku Santana among others.
