Review: Thank God For Idiots
The visitor, who turns out to be an unemployed houseboy looking for a new job uses the couple’s indifferences as a bait to get employed by the Kpushs. Mrs. Kpush wants a divorce because her husband is not good looking and lasts only “31 seconds in bed”.

This is what writer and producer, Latif Abubakar, and his Globe Productions chronicle in their latest play, Thank God For Idiots, when it was staged at the National Theatre last Monday as part of the month-long Ghana Theatre Festival.
The drama revolves around three characters, Mr. Kpush (Bernard Quaynor), his wife, Lady Pink (Gloria Obeng Obiyaa) and the houseboy, Apisco (Clement Ashiteye).
Taking the play as a whole, perhaps it is just as well that the producers labelled it as “a humour-packed stage play” because besides the laughter that much of the dialogue draws from the audience, it does not score much in terms of great drama.
Although many of the patrons obviously enjoyed the “humour bits, it was quite difficult to arrive at a definite theme of the play.
Apisco, however, could be singled for the central role he played that held the play together. Even he sometimes, overdid things and lost his character as a houseboy along the way.
Technically, Thank God For Idiots will do with some fine-tuning to ensure that the stage is not left bare and dark for too long and that the on-screen adverts are better co-ordinated when it is performed again on, September 28, at the National Theatre.
