Rain, rain go away - Sonnie Badu show survives

Last Friday at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi just when the Let It Rain singer Sonnie Badu and other heavyweight gospel musicians were ready to shake the Baba Yara Stadium, it began to rain. By 8pm, the rain had descended heavily leaving patrons to seek cover under any available shelter at the stadium.

After almost three hours of rain, it was as if God had listened to prayers from pastors, singers and fans who had come to support Sonnie Badu.

About 11:30 pm the rain finally stopped and immediately the production team quickly mounted the stage to clean up.  The show eventually got underway at 12 midnight with Francis Amo as the first act.

He was followed after his performance by other musicians such as Enoch Arhin, OJ, SP Kofi Sarpong, Cwesi Oteng, Kojo Oteng, Victoria Sarfo, Dorcas Appiah, Tagoe Sisters, YABS and Rev Yawson who performed back-to-back to the delight of the appreciable audience.

For only 30 minutes that he was on stage acclaimed gospel musician, Dr Ron Kenoly, left fans screaming for more. No wonder he was a headline artiste. He got the fans to sing along with him to songs like, Ancient Of Days, Sing Out, You Are and Lift Him Up.

Then came the man everyone had been waiting for, Sonnie Badu. He got on stage at about  2 am it unfortunately began to drizzle again. Sonnie was, however, able to keep the crowd at the stadium on their feet with his energetic style of singing and dancing. He started off with praise songs for an hour and thirty minutes.

When the audience had danced and sang for close to two hours, Sonnie relaxed them with melodious worship songs.

MC’S on the night were Fiifi Forson from Sunny FM and Abeiku Santana of Okay FM.  At the end of the four-hour show, Kumasi Worships with Sonnie Badu organised by Smarttys Production etched itself on the minds of patrons who will remember it for a long time.
