Mzbel Rockz concert goes to Bukom

The interesting thing about this year’s concert is that it is going to be an open air free concert to be held at the Bukom Square in Accra.

Speaking at a press launch at the Alisa Hotel, Accra, on Wednesday, Mzbel said she chose the Bukom Square because that is where she grew up and she would like to give back to society.

She added that most of the residents of Bukom may not have the confidence to attend a show at the National Theatre so she thought it wise to take it to their doorstep.

According to her, “last year’s event was designed to celebrate my 10 years exploit in the music industry”.

However, the professional execution coupled with the value it brought patrons, made many call for institutionalising the concert as an annual event, building on the successes and failures from previous years.

Following the massive success and rave reviews of the maiden edition of the concert, and as part of a grand scheme to impact society in more meaningful ways through music, Mzbel and her team decided to use this platform as a channel to sensitise teenagers and young adults within the Jamestown community by equipping them with the requisite sex education.

“I believe strongly that by educating all young girls and by empowering those that are already out of school with employable skills, we should be able to curtail the prevalence of teenage pregnancies, skin bleaching, etc. within the James Town community, “she said.

The May 1 event will allow the team shed more light on the need for proper sex education and to support identified young girls from the James Town community through an Education and Skill Acquisition Programme.

Mzbel added that artistes who will join her on stage on the night will be made known in due course as they are still in talks with some of them.
