Millennium Market wins Kpataashie cooking contest

Competitors in this year’s contest, which was held at the CNC car park in Accra, were from Ogbojo, Millennium, Agbogbloshie, Mamobi, Freedom, 31st December, Novotel No.2, Anyaa, Tuesday and Abeka markets.  Each market was assigned to cook a dish from a particular region in the country.

Guests at the competition included officials from the Culture, Tourism and Arts, as well as the Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministries. Also present were students from the Accra High and Holy Trinity Cathedral senior high schools as the contest considers it important for young people to be familiar with our traditional foods.

Each competing market had three hours to finish cooking. While they tackled their assignments, there was music and dance from the Sasa Inzery and God is Love Borborbor groups. The audience enjoyed what they heard which prompted some of the market women to step up and dance with the performers.

The contestants from the Millennium Market took away two table top refrigerators for coming up tops. Those from the Ogbojo Market placed second and got two microwave ovens, while the Novotel No.2 women took the third position and received souvenirs from the programme’s sponsors,  Onga and Cowbel.

The other contestants also received consolation prizes.
