Ho West holds cultural expo

Ho West holds cultural expo

Dubbed, “Cultural Expo 2016”, the event was the maiden edition and was attended by a broad section of citizenry, including chiefs and queens. The theme for the event was ‘Unearthing the Wealth of Ho West District.’

The District Cultural Officer, Ms Beatrice Gah, explained that the cultural expo had become necessary, since most of the activities that could generate wealth for the district had not been given the necessary attention. The expo was, therefore, the beginning of efforts to attract patronage for Ho-West products outside of the district.

She said the programme would also help to create a database of people engaged in wealth creation activities in the district.  She appealed to the district assembly to help provide a pavilion to cater for trainees engaged in batik, tie, dye fabric production.

An exhibition of handicrafts, including beads, batik cloth and food products from the district was mounted.  Also on display was the traditional brown rice processed into bread and nicely packaged cereal foods. Guests had the opportunity to taste the varieties of bread on show.

Many performing groups also demonstrated their skills in the borborbor dance and brass band music.

The Ho West District Chief Executive, Samuel Eworde, commended the chiefs for supporting the programme. He pointed out that culture was not limited to drumming and dancing but that it embraced other values in the community that contributed to positive development.

He pledged the assembly’s support for future editions of the programme.
