Three Ghanaian showbiz personalities living in Finland last Saturday made Ghana proud when they won awards at the first ever Afrofinns Achievement Awards held in Helsinki, Finland.
Blaqboy Jnr, real name, Alfred Tetteh Coffie, picked the award for Afro Inspired Music; Nana TV also known as Nana Adjoa Boateng grabbed the Media Personality Award while Nurudeen Adedorja, walked home with the Sports Personality of the Year award.
Other categories such as Academic Achievement and Business/Project went to Lukumanu Iddrisu and Isaac Kumah, respectively.
In a telephone chat with Blaqboy Jr from his base in Finland where he is pursuing medicine, he said that the award meant a lot to him as well as his music career and it would motivate him to do more to give fans the best of Afro music.
“I appreciate the organisers for acknowledging and honouring Africans in Finland, I also want to thank Afrofinns and Think Africa for putting this event together. I believe this will tell the story of the good things we are doing in this country which will in turn create a positive image for us,” he said.
The Afrofinns Achievement Awards seeks to recognise and honour Africans living in Finland who are making positive contribution to the Finnish society while creating a better image of the African community.
Afrofinns Achievement Awards is an initiative of Afrofinns Ry and Think Africa and according to Mr Elvis Fuamba, Chairman of Afrofinns Ry, the awards scheme aims at acknowledging and celebrating the good works of outstanding personalities in the African community.
“There are lots of Ghanaians and other Africans who are doing amazingly well in various fields such as media, music, movies, among others, so it is just right that we celebrate such people and to let those back home know that we are doing something right far away from home,” he stated.
