Celebrating Accra arts festival around again

H.E. Margit Thomsen, the Danish Ambassador, in Accra will launch a book titled, Kumasi Realism - 1951 to 2007: An African Modernism. It  was authored by the acclaimed painter, art historian and curator Dr. Atta Kwami.

The Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle will rock with the Australia- based Ghanaian star Afro Moses, who will perform as part of activities marking the 2014 International Women’s Day celebrations in Accra. Also on stage will be guitarist Akablay and his Abiza Band.

 On Wednesday, March 12, writer / performance poet, Nii Ayikwei Parkes, will read portions from his novel, Tail of the Blue Bird, while renowned ethnomusicologist, Prof. JH Nketia, also  delivers a lecture on “Creative Transformation of Ghana’s Traditional Music” at the British Council Hall.

An exhibition of works by multi-talented artist Tei Huagie and designer, coffin maker Eric Anang, would be showcased at the Dei Centre on Friday, March 14. 

The National Dance Company will perform Bukom, a dance drama choreographed by Prof. F. Nii Yartey at the National Theatre on Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15.

Ehalakasa poets and students from some secondary schools in the city will also perform at selected street corners and end up at the National Theatre with a performance on International Poetry Day on Friday, March 21.

The Youth Home Cultural group, Wuza Wuza Dance Ensemble and clothes designers, will perform traditional / contemporary dances and showcase fashion from northern Ghana at the Alliance Française on Wednesday, March 26.

Dance Factory will pull the curtain down on March 31, at the Goethe-Institut with a contemporary  piece choreographed by Frank Sam and Mark Lomotey titled Nkabom.  The performers will be  physically- challenged dancers and able- bodied persons.

DANIDA, Ghana Denmark Cultural Fund, Danish Embassy in Accra, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Goethe-Institut, British Council and the Alliance Française are supporting CAAF 2014, which is being organised by the Institute for Music and Development.
