5th Central Music Awards in December

The award scheme, formally known as Obama City Awards will come off on Monday, December 26, at the Centre For National Culture, Cape Coast, under the theme, “Be Original, Craft an Identity”.

Initially, the award was geared towards only musicians from Cape Coast and Elmina but has now been re-branded to embrace all musicians in the Central Region.

It now embraces, celebrates and rewards musicians from the Central Region and those from other parts of the country who due to work, school or other engagement find themselves in the region.

In all, there are 18 categories up for grabs this year.They include Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Vocalist of the Year, Best Collaboration, New Artiste of the Year, Highlife Song of the Year, Gospel Song of the Year, Best Rapper of the Year, Sound Engineer of the Year and Most Popular Song of the Year, 

The rest are Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year, Hiplife/Hiphop Song of the Year, Best Female Vocalist of the Year, Best Male Vocalist of the Year, Most Popular Ghanaian Song in Central Region, Best Music Promoter, Best Music Video, Hip-Gospel Song of the Year and Life time Achievement Awards.

Apart from recognising the outstanding contributions of up and coming artistes in the region, music legends from the region are also awarded the life time achievement category, for their dedication and contribution to the music industry.

Previous editions saw luminaries such as Ben Brako and Bessa Simons being awarded for their immense contributions to the Ghanaian music industry.
