World Trade Promotion Organisation conference and awards slated for May 2022 in Ghana

Trade and investment promotion organisations around the world will meet in Accra from May 17-18, 2022 for the World Trade Promotion Organisations Conference (WTPO).

The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), and the International Trade Centre (ITC), will jointly host the conference.

The ITC is the only trade development agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) that is fully dedicated to supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) globally for trade development.

A media release issued by GEPA said the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo confirmed his presence to grace the conference during a meeting with ITC Executive Director, Ms Pamela Coke-Hamilton and the CEO of GEPA, Dr Afua Asabea Asare, in Accra on October 26, 2021.

Discussions will focus on assessing solutions for small firms to build resilience against disruptions caused by crises such as climate change and pandemics. Participants will also explore new opportunities arising from digitalisation and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Why Ghana?

The GEPA in 2018 won the bid to host the WTPO conference in partnership with the ITC.

The WTPO conference and awards is organised under the auspices the International Trade Centre (ITC) every two years and is often attended by about 125 different TIPOs, usually represented by CEOs and business decision makers.

WTPO Awards 2022

Meanwhile, the ITC is inviting members of the trade promotion organisations network to apply for the WTPO Awards 2022. At the conference, excellence in assistance for small and medium-sized firms to trade across borders will be recognised in three categories: innovative partnerships, use of technology, and sustainable and inclusive trade.
