We’ll live up to customer expectations — Coconut Grove Hotels

The hospitality wing of the Groupe Nduom Group of Companies, the Coconut Grove Hotels, has pledged to live-up to the expectations of its clients and stakeholders in the industry as part of a testament to the numerous awards that the hotels and the group won last year.

The Coconut Grove Hotels, which comprise of five hotels in Accra, Elmina and Obuasi, won a total of three awards at separate ceremonies organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI).

While the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, Accra, was adjudged the Best Hotel in the country by AGI at its annual Ghana Industry Awards in November last year, the Coconut Grove Beach Resort and Conference Centre at Elmina was also adjudged the Best Hotel in the Central Region by the GTA in that same year.

The GTA, which regulates the tourism industry, also conferred a similar award on the Coconut Grove Hotels, which is the umbrella body of the three hotels.

While admitting that the awards were an inspiration to the business and the staff in general, the General Manager of Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra, Mr Ralph Ayittey, said it also came with some responsibilities.

“If you are continually in the public eye as is the case with us because of these awards, you realise that people expect you to deliver exceptional services way beyond your capacity,” Mr Ayittey said in an interview.

“Although we are a two-star hotel, we are aware that people and customers expect some five-star services from us because they think we can do that. But that is not a challenge because we are always up to the task,” he said.

Mr Ayittey was speaking to the paper on the impact of the recent award that was conferred on the group at the National Tourism Awards held in Accra.

A citation accompanying the award read: "Coconut Grove Hotels, an indigenous business in the tourist accommodation sector, has grown from humble beginnings to become the brand of choice for both domestic and international clients. The huge investments made resulted in the opening of branches in Obuasi, Elmina and Accra, all leading to job creation for many Ghanaians.”

“The recent celebration of 20 years of operations by the Coconut Grove Beach Resort and Conference Centre, Elmina, lends credence to the fact that indigenous businesses can succeed in Ghana," the citation read.

It explained that the award was in recognition of Coconut Grove Hotels’ contribution to the hotel industry and consistent support for the sector as a whole.

This, according to the General Manager of Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, was motivating to the group and the staff in particular.

“It gives us confidence that people recognise the work we do and it will spur us on to do more,” he said.

The three hotels, which form the hospitality wing of the Groupe Nduom, have been consistent in the use of made-in-Ghana products, including local furniture, staff uniforms, burnt bricks, pots and artifacts, in their respective operations.

They are currently the only hospitality facilities in the country that have been committed to serving only locally grown rice and chicken consistently for the last 10 years.
