The Governors, who are attending a WAMZ meeting to discuss and review the challenges in achieving the convergence criteria for a common currency for ECOWAS, were in the Flagstaff House to pay a courtesy call on the Vice President.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur reiterated his call for the independence of the operations of Central Banks in the sub region. This, he said, will enable them to make right decisions to support the growth of economies in the region.

He also reminded the central banks of the critical role they are required to play in achieving effective economic management, and urged the governors to utilize their independence beneficially.

“We want the central banks to be independent and take the bold decisions needed to protect and grow our economies,” he said.

The Governor of the Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, congratulated Mr. Amissah-Arthur on his swearing-in as Vice President.

“We are extremely happy for Ghana to have you as Vice President. We know you will help the President handle the economy whilst he focuses on security, politics and all the other issues. We wish to congratulate you and wish you success as the economy grows from strength to strength”, Sanusi said.
