Vanguard Assurance has organised a skills-upgrading course for eight of its top sales executives.
The course, which was run for a period of three weeks, was held in Accra and was supported by the Business Skill Development Services (BSDS), a business consultancy firm.
In his remarks to bring the course to a close, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vanguard Assurance, Dr Gideon Amenyedor, said it was the focus of the company to develop the skills of its staff to make them have cutting edge knowledge in all areas of the insurance industry.
“Our interest does not lie solely in collecting premiums from our clients, but also in giving them value for service,” he said.
He said the course was organised upon realisation of a knowledge gap in the way sales persons went about their work.
Most professionals, he said, were smart in their field of speciality but not all have a hands-on approach, a critical element in today’s business environment in order to achieve success.

“That is why at Vanguard, staff who show commitment and excel in what they do are encouraged and sponsored for further knowledge and to seek practical experience,” he added.
All the participants were awarded with certificates. A participant, Miss Rosemary Serwaa Obeng, said the course had taught her not to overly concentrate on winning clients and the commissions to be gained, but to have a personal interest in the client and the growth of his or her business.
Mr Richmond Amoako Mensah, who was the Best Vanguard Sales Executive for the 2011/12 season, said the course had further boosted his confidence.
He indicated he was now empowered to offer insightful advice to clients that would be tailor-measured to their needs.
