UPSA progresses to next stage of Tertiary Business Sense Challenge

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) managed to recover from a slow start to progress to the next stage of the second edition of the Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC) beating the Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, by a small margin.

Wisconsin, which progressed to the finals of the maiden edition last year, ended their journey in the second edition after losing to UPSA, although they proved to be a formidable side to reckon with during the contest.

The contest between the two schools, which is the last for the first stage, was very competitive right from the start to the finish where UPSA managed to garner 39 points and Wisconsin exited with 27 points.

In the first round, Wisconsin took an early lead with 12 points, while the UPSA earned seven points. UPSA came alive in the second round scoring seven and Wisconsin came closer with six points. Ahead of the third round, both teams did a substitution.

The swing

The problem of the day in the 3rd round made the difference although both teams failed to get the maximum 10 points. UPSA scored four while Wisconsin earned one point.

At this point, although it was too close to call in favour of any of the two teams, UPSA was able to maintain the lead till the fifth round.

The room was filled with loud cheers as the Quiz Master, Mr Alhassan Yusif Trawule, announced that “congratulations UPSA. You have earned the right to join the schools in the next stage.”

The visibly elated quiz master described the contest as a beautiful one and one of the heated ones in the contest.

The challenge

The TBSC is organised by the Graphic Business in partnership with the Ministry of Business Development and the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) and is being held on the theme: “Developing Business Minds”.

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), The Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) are providing the technical support for the contest.

The corporate sponsors include Accra Brewery Ltd (ABL), PricewaterhouseCoopers (Pwc), Glico Life Insurance, Twellium Industrial Company Limited, and CompuGhana.

The media partners are YFM and Media General, operators of TV3.
