uniCredit opens branch at Suame

Speaking at the opening of the company’s branch at Suame in Kumasi, Mr Ameyaw noted that the primary objective of the company was to provide attractive deposit and credit delivery services to individuals, micro, small and medium enterprises. He said the long term objective of the company was to help small savers and borrowers to improve on the quality of their lives through wealth creation.

Touching on the firm’s steady growth over the years, Mr Ameyaw said the efforts made to promote deposit mobilisation and credit delivery had paid off, as evidenced by significant increases in deposit and credit portfolios. He said the number of depositors which stood at 41,150 in 2009, currently stood at 96,045 registering a growth of over 133.4 per cent, while that of outstanding deposits increased from GH¢18.3 to GH¢109.1 million during the same period registering about a six-fold growth.

Mr Franklin Belnye, Head of Banking Supervision Department of the Bank of Ghana, commended uniCredit for the strides it had so far made and encouraged the firm to be innovative in order to effectively match the competition which he said was very keen within the Suame enclave.

He was delighted at uniCredit’s steady growth, which has a total assets of GH¢ 122.4 million.

According to him, the company had also complied with the minimum paid up capital requirement with shareholders equity standing at GH¢9.5 million.

uniCredit, formerly Kantamanto Savings and Loans Company Limited, was licensed by the Bank of Ghana in 1995 to operate as a non-bank financial institution under the Financial Institutions (No-Banking) Law,1993 (PNDC 328).

With approval from the Bank of Ghana, the name of the company was changed to uniCredit Ghana Limited in March 2007.
