Explore opportunities in upstream petroleum industry - PC to Ghanaians in diaspora

The Petroleum Commission (PC) has encouraged Ghanaians in the diaspora to explore the numerous business opportunities in the country’s upstream petroleum industry.

Speaking at the Oil and Gas Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) networking session, organised by the Ghana-Houston Business Chamber during a panel discussion, Chief Executive Officer of Petroleum Commission, Mr Egbert Faibille Jnr., said the nascent industry in Ghana presents growing opportunities for all including those in the diaspora.

Although the upstream sector is evolving, he said it seeks to create a fair and equitable competition of credible manner to ensure that level playing field for all.

The networking session afforded Ghanaians in the diaspora the platform to understand the country’s oil and gas sector and collaborate with Ghanaian SME’s in the upstream sector to tap into opportunities.

The Ghana Houston Business Chamber comprises of Ghanaian immigrants in Houston with interest in Ghana to foster partnerships geared towards expanding business activities, trade and investment between both countries.

The session was attended by a large number of investors from Houston and those attending the ongoing Offshore Technology Conference.

Stressing on the importance of regulation (LI 2204), Mr Faibille said the need for all expertise in the diaspora to return home and help propel the country’s economy saying, “A conducive environment has been created for all to invest in the various sectors of the economy for mutual benefit.”

He took the opportunity to explain the processes involved in registering with the commission as well as Joint Venture agreements and protocols in an open and transparent manner.

He commended the investor community for the interest in the country upstream petroleum industry and other sectors of the economy and what they should know while in Ghana.

The Vice-President and Country Manager of Kosmos Energy, Ghana, Mr Joe Mensah took turns to share his experience on how he overcame challenges relating to settling and operating a business in the country a decade ago when he decided to move to Ghana.
