The conference is an initiative of Prosline Events Ghana Limited, in collaboration with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

Speaking in an interview with the GRAPHIC BUSINESS ahead of the conference, the Executive Director of Prosline Events, Mr Daniel Prosper Balgogee, said the conference was aimed at assisting in the knowledge of fundamental principles of protocol and to improve the image and productivity of individuals and institutions through effective protocol.

He said the conference would equip institutions, event managers, churches and hospitality operators with cutting edge skills for the protocol industry.

Who and who can attend?

Touching on who and who could attend the conference, he said it was targeted at chief executive officers, public relations practitioners, corporate affairs executives, international relations executives, protocol officers, event organisers and student leaders in tertiary institutions.

The rest are tourism industry and hospitality operators, brand and marketing managers, front desk personnel, senior management members and religious leaders.

He also outlined some speakers for the event, including Ambassador Ken Kenda, who will speak on what protocol is, as well as event management and procedures at functions from a protocol perspective; Ambassador Kwabena Baah-Duodu will speak on foreign policy and diplomacy and cultural diplomacy; Ambassador James Naadjie will also speak on promoting excellence in protocol, the role of passion, versatility and confidence in achieving results; and Col M’Bawine Atintande who will be speaking on protocol and security.

Maiden conference

Mr Blagogee also noted that the maiden conference which was the first of its kind had received lots of commendation.

“The idea started way back in the mind and after eight years I felt I had to push hard and let it happen and this has earned me lots of commendations. The feedback has been good and participants wanted to have more,” he explained.

He said that was why it decided to hold the conference for two days this year.

Protocol in Ghana

Commenting on the protocol industry in Ghana, he said, protocol consciousness was lacking and not even understood.

“My aim is, therefore, to propagate and stir protocol within those who practise and also those who didn’t really understand what it meant,” he stated.

“We will be talking about the importance of protocol, the definitions, and participants will be endowed with a lot of skills when they attend.

We want people to understand protocol as protocol is required by everyone everywhere,” he added.

He said protocol was all about communication, relationship and the smooth running of any meeting.

“Any meeting or activity is an event and protocol is required,” he emphasised.
