The amount which is higher than last year’s cost of GH₵24,000 also catered for free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration of children below 18 and the aged above 70 years.

The annual free health screening for residents by the GCGL is in its 10th year while partnership between the two companies has been running for five successive years, investing in the lives of people.

The Managing Director of the GCGL, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey in his address reiterated that the main aim of the company is to spearhead the development of the people of Ghana and not just about profit making.

“In everything we do, as we inform, educate and entertain people through our newspapers and website, we are mindful that it should be geared towards the development of our nation Ghana,” he said.

According to Mr Ashigbey, the company was committed to continually looking at ways to give back to society, adding “if we help in the development of Adabraka we are helping to develop a part of Ghana.”

He also charged residents to be health conscious and adapt to practices that would prevent sicknesses citing the popular adage, “prevention is better than cure.”

The MD of ABL, Mr Gregory Metcalf, said the exercise was a demonstration of how they cared about a community they had been a part of for several years.

“We contribute in various ways to the sustainability of the community, a healthy community is a strong one, and a strong community is good for business,” he said.

He added it was heartwarming to see the huge number of people who benefited from the exercise and was optimistic that the exercise would go a long way to help residents of the community.

The Public Affairs Manager of GCGL, Mr Albert Sam, in an interview with the GRAPHIC BUSINESS said the company set a percentage of its profit aside to help the people of the community which had hosted them since its inception.

He said they sought for partnership from companies operating in the area and the first exercise was done by partnering Merchant Bank for two years, then came Pepsi the subsequent year and Toyota Ghana Limited for two years, adding from then ABL joined and they had since maintained it.
