INSET: The head office building of Golden Pride at Obuasi. Golden Pride Savings and Loans Company (GPSL), an indigenous finance house is set to position itself as the provider of financial solutions for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country.
Although a major challenge of SMEs remains access to credit, the company says it has what it takes to develop products and services to meet their financial aspirations especially in the peri-urban centres.

“I can say with all confidence that this category of business holds the potential or is the key to strengthen the foundation of the country’s economy, as such targeting them is our prime focus,” the Managing Director of the company, Mr John Boadi Asamoah said.

Speaking at the official opening of the head office building of the GPSL at Obuasi, Mr Asamoah said they would offer a comprehensive, enterprise-wide package, to their customers to help them surmount the hurdle they faced in terms of accessing customised products and services.

The Board Chairman of the company, Mr Prince William Ankrah, said Ghana as a developing country had a disparaging gap between our urban and rural settings.

“This situation is evidently due to economic, historic, and social reasons.  Informed by this rather worrying scenario, the promoters of this institution thought it prudent to site the head office of this modest but promising company outside the traditional business hub of Accra and Kumasi,” he explained.

Obuasi, he said became the obvious choice not just for the reason of it being the pivot of mining activities in West Africa, but as a foothold to establishing the much needed, and easily accessible bespoke financial services to the often marginalised peri-urban and rural communities in the country.

The Assistant Director of the Banking Supervision Department of the Bank of Ghana, Mr Boyd Donkor advised management of the company to adopt good corporate governance practices.
