Ghana's taxation institute head elevated

Mike Kofi AffluThe President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana, Mr Mike Kofi Afflu, has been elected as the Head of the West African Union of Tax Institutes (WAUTI), under the auspices of the ECOWAS Commission.

He was elected at the Second International Tax Conference held at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria, from March 27 to 28, 2013.

Mr Afflu polled 90 per cent of the valid votes cast by 10 ECOWAS countries present at the conference. The countries were Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cote D’Ivoire, Liberia, Niger, Togo and the Benin Republic.

He is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Tax Consultant, a Master Tax Practitioner (MTP) of the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners (SAIT), a Certified Forensic Investigation

Professional (CFIP) of the International Institute of Certified Forensic Investigation Professionals (IICFIP) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana.

The theme of the conference was ‘‘The Role of Taxation in Good Governance’’.

It was attended by the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Mr George Blankson, and some officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority. Other dignitaries present were the

President of the ECOWAS Commission, Ambassador Kadre Desire Ouedraogo, who was represented by Mr Salifou Tiemtore, Director of Customs of the ECOWAS Commission, the Executive

Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, who was represented by Mr Bolo Sodupo, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Revenue and Tax Matters. Also in attendance was Mr Jiri Nekovar, President of the Confederation Fiscale Europeenne from Brussels.

Mr Aflu is also the Managing Partner of Inter-Class Associates, a firm of Charterd Accountants and Chartered Tax Consultants, with head office in Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
