Players in the insurance industry will gather at the plush Kempinski Ambassador Hotel in Accra on June 26 to celebrate the achievements of practitioners and institutions and chart a new course for the industry.
It will be the second edition of the Ghana Insurance Awards, where individuals and companies will be vying for 28 award categories in total.
Consequently, the organisers of the awards, Xodus Communications, have opened nominations for distinguished insurance companies that excelled in various fields in the year under review to apply.
The Events Director of Xodus Communications, Mr Richard Abbey Jnr, told the Daily Graphic, in an interview, that his outfit introduced the awards to recognise the achievements and standards in the industry.
He said winners would be selected by an independent advisory board.

“The board would be supported by eligible consultants and auditing firms,” he said.
He said the nominees would be evaluated based on the criteria listed for each category, taking into consideration, where appropriate, individual profiles, achievements and financial performance, in the designated time-frame and data from regulators.
On the rules and requirements of the awards, he said no individual could be nominated for more than one award on substantially the same basis.
He said the committee would discard entries for multiple awards that broadly replicated other entries.
“We also reserve the right to move an entry to a different category from the category entered if the entry is better suited to that category,” he noted.
In the event where there were few qualified nominations in a particular category, he said the committee reserved the right not to select a winner in that category.
“All nominations must be submitted using the online nominating process and they may be submitted either directly from the individual, company or from a third party.
“In the event that a third party nominates an individual, Ghana Insurance Awards will contact the nominated individual and ask the nominee to review the nomination for accuracy and, if necessary, provide any missing documentation,” he explained.
Some of the 28 categories are the ICT leadership award, insurance brand of the year, marketing initiative of the year, young achiever of the year, brokerage company of the year, CSR leadership award, customer care award, mobile insurance leadership award and broking innovation award.
Others include claims initiative of the year, the major loss award, personal lines insurer of the year- life, commercial line insurer of the year, non-life insurance company of the year, life insurance company of the year, insurance personality of the year, bancassurance leader award and the product innovation award.

Mr Abbey Jnr pointed out that the committee would also be giving out a lifetime achievement award to an individual who had made an outstanding contribution to the success of the insurance industry through their illustrious career.
He said the award would be decided by the panel in consultation with the wider industry.
