ATU Alumni holds public lecture today

Accra Technical University (ATU) Alumni Association will tomorrow hold a public lecture on the need to bridge the gap between industry and technical universities for economic transformation, at the school’s old auditorium.

On the theme: ‘Bridging the gap between Industry and Technical University for Economic Transformation,’ the lecture is sponsored by the GRAPHIC BUSINESS and it is also part of activities to commemorate the university’s 70th anniversary.

It is expected to host key personalities such as the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, as a guest of honour, the CEO of KAMA Group Ghana Limited, Dr Michael Agyekum Addo, as the special guest speaker and Mr Robert Nii Lante Lamptey, as the guest speaker.

Mr Ishmael Ashitey

The Vice Chairman of the association, Mr Emmanuel Nyavor, in a statement, observed that all was set for the public lecture to be held tomorrow.

In recent times, he said there had been a public outcry for the review of the curriculum in the tertiary institutions in order to meet the needs of industry and the world of work at large.

He said the outcry could not be overlooked due to technological changes and advancement.

“Thus the need for tertiary institutions to prepare, train and equip graduates with requisite knowledge and employable skills necessary for industry and the world of work at large is indeed a welcome call.

“The need for graduates, who are prepared for employment and skilled for the world of work, has been widely advocated over the last decade.

“The widening gap between industry and associated education sector needs to be diagnosed and given the best of treatment required leading to rapid economic transformation,” he added.
