Ghana-made products shortlisted for awards
The Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana (EFG) has shortlisted some made-in-Ghana products to receive honours at the maiden edition of Ghana-Made Product Awards and Exhibition 2012.

The shortlisted products include Interplast’s HDPE gas pipe, the Latex Foam’s orthopeadic mattress, Reroy’s 4.0mm conduit cable; M&G Pharmaceuticals Zintab 10mg and 20 mg; Special Ice mineral water; Neat Fufu and GIHOC’s Takai & Madingo Bitters.
Others are Nkulenu bottled palm Wine & Palm Soup Base, Poly Tank, Everpack Akwaaba tissue and toilet roll.
The Ghana Made Product Awards and Exhibition, an initiative of EFG, is being held under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Standards Authority.
On the theme, “Patronising Ghana- Made Products, the Gateway to Economic Development”, the award seeks to celebrate some of the pride of Ghanaian indigenous products and expose them to Ghanaians throughout the country to create awareness, promote and build product loyalty, protect the economy and move it to international level.
The nominees will be announced at the 1st Ghana Made Product Awards slated for Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the State Banquet Hall in Accra.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by the President and Founder of EFG, Mr Sam Ato Gaisie, mentioned other shortlisted products as rlg Uhuru Tablet-Laptop; Central Wood Furniture; Accents and Arts metal balustrades & furniture; Duraplast septic tank and Durablock-water filled plastic barriers, Qualiplast Waste bins and multi purpose crates as well as Chocho Cream & Hair Food.
Nsawam Cannery Pineapple Juice; Getrade Village Fresh Alata Samina; Agbeve Herbal Tonic; Nallem Afrocentric Clothing; Samba Shito in sachets 25g and Samba KFC Shito in sachet 12g; Msimps Hand bags; Horseman Men’s Shoes; Freehand Studio Paintings; Horbs Smart Look Spray Starch; Horbs Pure Hygiene and BBC Leyland Paints are also among the shortlists.
Mr Gaisie explained that the awards had been categorised into Best Product of the Year; Lifetime Product; Emerging Product; Assembled Products; Innovative Products; Natural Mineral Water product; Food & Beverages; Clothing & Garments; Building Materials; Footwear and Handbags.
The rest are Pharmaceuticals/Herbal Product’s Rubber and Plastics; Toiletries; Laundry and Detergent; Cosmetics; Art and Craft; Wood and Metal; Electrical & Electronics as well as Tissue & Paper.
“We must all show patriotism and participate in the well-being and financial stability of our nation and make conscious efforts to buy made-in-Ghana products, including the consumption of made-in- Ghana food and beverages in our homes, board meetings and official functions in other to save indigenous Ghanaian industries from collapsing,” Mr Gaisie was quoted as saying.
The statement said products entered in the categories would be scored against six parameters that demonstrated overall product excellence and quality, product content (local materials), Product innovation, product leadership and benefit to the consumer, product value and Packaging as well as Product certification from Ghana Standards authority or Food and Drugs Authority.
