Ghana-Israel Agritech Summit opens June 4

A day-long summit to expose Ghanaian and African farmers to advances in Agricultural Technology and help galvanise the resolve of the continent towards food security opens in Accra on June 4.

The summit, an initiative of Ghanaian mentorship and start-up motivational group, Masem, will feature no less than 20 Israeli companies and entrepreneurs showcasing the best of Israeli Agricultural Technology, developed and sharpened over thousands of years.

“It simply does not make sense that with about 70 percent of the world’s arable lands, Africa is a net importer of basic agricultural produces. This cannot continue or we are all doomed”, decries Cyril Heyman, summit coordinator and CEO of Masem.

Themed “Ghana Grows with Israel (GHrow-IL) Agritech Summit 2019,” he said the summit is bringing together Israel’s best agric innovators and technologies that have seen to it that the largely desert dwellers are food sufficient.

Mrs Ayelet Levin-Karp, Israel's Head of Trade and Economic Mission to Ghana

Collaborating partners in the agribusiness, innovation and technology focused fair include the Trade and Economic Mission of Israel in Ghana; the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, AGRA and the Tony Blair Foundation.

“Globally, food security has become a major concern as the world’s population increases and natural resources dwindle. This means there is an increasing need for smart solutions for more efficient farming and safer food packaging and storage”, he told Graphic Online, explaining that since the 1950s, the State of Israel has been at the forefront of developing smart agricultural solutions which have contributed to their economic success.

“Israel leads the world in drip irrigation, getting more grains to the market, precision agriculture, helping farmers export, dairy farming, and packaging among others”, he said.

He said the Agritech Summit 2019 (of exhibition, dialogue and site visits) is carefully designed to offer interested Ghanaian and African companies in the agricultural space as well as leaders of policy advocacy groups, the opportunity to learn, interact and build business relationships with leading Israeli Agri-Tec innovators and senior executives interested in entering the local market.

This year’s event will focus on the following three areas; Input Technologies, Modern Agronomic Practices, and Financing Models in Agribusiness.
