Ghana has business potential for mutual benefit - Veep assures investors

Vice–President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur has told the international business community that Ghana has huge economic potential that can be harnessed for mutual benefit.

He said Ghana had positioned itself strategically for investment because of its stability and serene investment environment.

Mr Amissah-Arthur made the remark when a business delegation from Brazil, led by the Brazilian Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Irene Vida Gala, paid a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

“You have seen the potential for yourselves. We can benefit from many things, particularly agriculture, infrastructure and finance,” he said.

He said the country’s stability, for instance, had earned Ghana a lot of respect and opened its doors to a lot of groups and individuals who were interested in transacting genuine business.

The Vice-President, therefore, assured potential investors of the government’s determination  to remove hindrances that tended to frustrate their investment drives.

“Ghana has become a strategic country. We have significant excess capacity to share with the rest of West Africa and the world at large,” he told the delegation.

On the transport sector, Mr Amissah-Arthur said the government was networking and also creating a hub to ease transportation in the sub-region.

Touching on gains in the educational sector, the Vice-President said the country had quality tertiary institutions that could provide quality education, adding that “we have quality workforce so we can partner you”.

“We are anxious to provide for the sub-regional economy.  Once we come together, we can provide a significant input for the West African economy,” the Vice-President said.

The Vice-President said Brazil remained an example for emerging economies to learn from owing to the transformation of its economy, and gave an assurance that the government was very much committed to encouraging more investors to partner the private sector.

For her part, the Brazilian Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Gala, said the delegation would discuss the framework for increasing financial support to Ghana.

She said Brazil also had plans to invest in the construction of 5,000 affordable housing project in Ghana, saying after Angola, “Ghana is the second major interest.”
