Ghana Business Awards honours 60 companies

Sixty companies and individuals have been honoured at the maiden edition of the Ghana Business Awards which was held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.

The main objective of the event was to reward businesses that had played a defining role in moving their industry forward and had demonstrated achievement across a wide variety of domains, including sustainability, operational excellence, innovation and others.
 
It was also to identify projects and individual achievements that had enabled their businesses to set themselves apart from their competitors and which had produced clear and compelling value and other relevant results.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the Ghana Business Awards, Mr Latif Abubakar, said local businesses could not stand the test of time if they failed to take standards seriously.
 
Mr Abubakar said it was one thing setting up a business, and another producing compelling value for it. He also urged Ghanaian businesses across the diaspora to extend their businesses home.

In his keynote address, the Minister of Business Development, Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Awal, described the immense support businesses had provided to the economy and urged them to continue to uphold standards in their operations.

Some of the companies that were awarded were Anglogold Ashanti Ghana Limited, Zenith Bank Ghana, Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, Benmarine Offshore Services, Ghana Shippers Authority, Mumuadu Rural Bank, Mericom Solutions Ghana, Vodafone Ghana, First Atlantic Bank, Goldfields Ghana, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, G4S – Security, ENI Ghana, Fuel Trade Limited and Kosmos Energy.

For the special recognition awards, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Mr Ebenezer Twum Asante, emerged CEO of the Year while Dr Kwabena Adjei of the Kasapreko Group of Companies was recognised as the Entrepreneur of the Year.

The CEO of Pharmanova, Mr Dhananjay Tripathi, was adjudged the Personality of the Year.

The Graphic Communications Group Limited was recognised as the Media Organisation of the Year, while the CEO of Vodafone Ghana, Ms Yolanda Cuba, and CEO of Forever Clear Group of Companies, Mrs Grace Amey-Obeng, were adjudged Promising CEO of the Year and Woman of Excellence respectively. — GB
