Ghana attends ONS 2018 innovative oil industry forum in Norway
Key players in Ghana’s oil industry, including the regulator and the national oil company, are set to make a case for the country at this year’s biennial Offshore Northern Seas 2018 (ONS 2018) conference and exhibition in Stavanger, Norway.
The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, and the Petroleum Commission are leading the team of Ghanaian upstream businesses to the confab where the Petroleum Commission is expected to make a presentation on “Making Ghana an attractive market for investments”.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Mr Egbert Faibille Jnr. and Mr Lawrence Apaalse of the Ministry of Energy are expected to lead the session.
The platform
As the world's leading event within oil, gas and renewable energy, ONS is reputed to have developed into an important assembling point for the energy industry, counting more than 60,000 visitors and 1,200 exhibitors at one location.
ONS is a biennial event in Stavanger, Norway, where after oil and gas was discovered in the North Sea, there came the need for an assembly place for the companies in this new industry.
ONS is a non-profit foundation established by Stavanger City Council, Statoil, Stavanger Forum and the Norwegian Petroleum Society.
ONS was first held in 1974 and consists of a high-quality exhibition, an esteemed conference and a unique festival, where international oil and gas industry players get together to network, debate and do business.
Innovate
The conference on the theme: Innovate, would also see a networking session hosted by the Petroleum Commission of Ghana in cooperation with Norwegian Energy Partners (NORWEP) and the Norwegian-African Business Association (NABA).
The session would present business opportunities within the energy and petroleum space beneficial for players in the Ghanaian industry and across the globe.
The trade mission
The trade mission will be the second after a similar mission to Aberdeen in Scotland this year, which saw the country’s upstream businesses engaging their counterparts in UK for likely joint ventures.
At this second mission, delegates representing Ghanaian companies will also pitch and be part of panels during discussions and also explore business avenues to project the country’s nascent industry.
Innovation Park
The forum would include the ONS Innovation Park, with a special focus on the oil and gas industry’s increasing reliance on cutting-edge technology. It also serves as a background for the ONS Innovation Awards.
With Ghana’s quest to increase power generation to back its industrialization drive, the exhibition which promotes the latest technological and innovative solutions the energy industry has to offer, would provide great lessons for Ghana’s petroleum and energy quests.
