GHACEM pays dividend to government

GHACEM Company Limited, the country’s largest producer of cement, has paid a dividend of GH¢2.4 million to the government.
The amount represents an interim dividend for this year. The government owns 400,000 shares in the company.

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Cassiel Ato Forson, received the cheque on behalf of the government and congratulated the management of GHACEM on their good performance in spite of the various challenges in their area of operation.

He also used the occasion to urge all companies, both joint ventures and state-owned companies, that have not yet paid the dividends due government for 2012 to do so.

That, he said, would enable the government to undertake planned projects for the year, since the outstanding dividend had been programmed as part of the annual resource envelop in the budget.

The Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director of GHACEM, Dr George Dawson-Ahmoah, who presented the cheque, said GHACEM’s consistent payment of dividends to government affirmed its commitment to economic development.

The company, he said, had also kept faith in its payment of direct and indirect taxes.

Last year, the company made payments in excess of GH¢135million to the government.
