Finance Minister seeks amendment to tax laws

The Minister of Finance, Mr Seth Terkper, last Friday laid a number of bills to amend some existing tax laws and introduce new ones.

They are the Communications Service Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2013, the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill and the Special Import Levy Bill, 2013.

Others are the National Stabilisation Levy Bill, 2013 and the Customs and Excise (Duties and other Taxes) (Amendment) Bill.

After laying the bills, the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, referred them to the Finance Committee for consideration and report.

In doing so, he directed the committee to consider if the bills should be considered under a certificate of urgency or not.
