Ecobank supports schools in operational areas

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) is spending US$2.5 million to improve schools infrastructure in all countries in which the bank operates.

In Ghana, the bank has donated stationery and Information, Communication Technology (ICT) materials worth GH¢289,000 to some selected schools across the country as part of the bank’s 25th anniversary.

The holding company, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, has chosen October 5 of each year to celebrate a community day called "Ecobank Day" in all countries in which the group operates.

On Ecobank Day, each of the 19, 000 staff members are encouraged to devote the whole day to serving the communities in which the group operates. In Ghana, the bank selected the Prampram Senior High School as one of its beneficiary institutions

According to the group’s Executive Director of Operations and Technology, Mr Eddy Ogbogu, the focus of the maiden edition of Ecobank Day was to provide the needed amenities to improve teaching and learning in public schools.

Mr Ogbogu said the first Saturday of October each year would be set aside to undertake CSR initiatives in various countries.

He said the objective of the CSR was “to inspire and energise Ecobankers to use their collective talents and resources to make a positive difference in their local communities.”

“We will continue to conduct our business activities in an ethically acceptable manner towards all stakeholders, while contributing our quota towards the socioeconomic development of our local communities and the country at large.’’
