A statement from the television station, also named Dr Kotei Dzanie, the Chief Executive Officer of Ideal Financial Holdings as its Emerging Man of the Year for 2014.

The two winners were selected from a list of potential winners drawn from business, academia, arts, science, entertainment, politics and religion.

Commenting on the announcement, the Chief Executive Officer of VIASAT 1 Ghana, Laetitia Royaards, stated that the Man of the Year Award Committee evaluated over 40 sterling performers in diverse fields during 2014 and named the two as the premier recipients of the awards which would be handed out every year.

“The fact that both Dr Duffuor and Dr Dzanie work in banking and finance is tribute to their tremendous success in a year which was riled with many economic challenges,” Royaards stated.

Commenting on behalf of the Awards Committee, Sadiq Abdulai Abu stated that “Dr Kwabena Duffuor successfully steered all his companies under the HODA GROUP, numbering about 15, to new thresholds in 2014.

“Unibank, Star Assurance, Unicredit, UniSecurities and a host of others all enjoyed tremendous growth in 2014. Dr Duffuor’s Media Group, Excellence In Broadcasting (EIB) group, headlined by Starr FM, also invaded the media space with its fine programming and aggressive drive towards expansion. Indeed, Dr Duffuor’s professional work, coupled with almost two million Ghana cedis expensed in corporate social responsibility by the group, propelled the former finance minister to win the Man of the Year Award,” Sadiq Abu, who doubles as the Head of Own Productions at VIASAT 1 Ghana said.

He also said Dr Dzanie was named Emerging Man of The Year due to his boldness in business and humanitarian activities.

“The Award Committee concluded that Dr Dzanie is a different breed among young Ghanaian businessmen. 2014 was a year that a lot of companies chose to be tentative because of the uncertain business climate but not Dr Kotei Dzanie”.

He bought Ezi Savings and Loans and successfully turned it into First Trust Savings and Loans. He also emboldened his finance House, his assets management company called Ideal Capital Partners and disbursed over 100 scholarships to students across all platforms of education.

“In 2014, Dr Dzanie became the standard for what young successful businessmen should aspire to, hence winning the Emerging Man of the Year Award,” he added.”

“The Man of The Year Awards are our most revered awards here at VIASAT 1. It is anchored by the multiple award-winning male centric show ‘BOYS BOYS’, which is essentially designed to celebrate men and hosted by Kojo Frempong”, he added .

The statement said the Man of the Year Award was targeted at men above 40 years, while the Emerging Man of the Year was typically for those under 40 years.

“We believe both winners of the award deserve kudos for their outstanding performance during the year,” the statement indicated.
