The group hotels, which is owned by Dr and Mrs Papa Kwesi Nduom, is a member of the Groupe Nduom Group of Companies that comprise businesses in almost all sectors of the economy.

A citation accompanying the award read: "Coconut Grove Hotels, an indigenous business in the tourist accommodation sector, has grown from humble beginnings to become the brand of choice for both domestic and international clients. The huge investments made resulted in the opening of branches in Obuasi, Elmina and Accra, all leading to job creation for many Ghanaians.”

“The recent celebration of 20 years of operation by the Coconut Grove Beach Resort and Conference Centre, Elmina, lends credence to the fact that indigenous businesses can succeed in Ghana," the citation read.

It explained that the award was in recognition of Coconut Grove Hotels’ contribution to the hotel industry and consistent support for the sector as a whole.

The three hotels, which form the hospitality wing of the Groupe Nduom, have been consistent in the use of made-in-Ghana products, including local furniture, staff uniforms, burnt bricks, pots and artifacts, in their respective operations.

They are currently the only hospitality facilities in the country that have been committed to serving only locally grown rice and chicken consistently for the last 10 years.

A statement from the group said last year was a good year of recognition for the Coconut Grove Hotels for their excellence in delivering memories worth repeating to patrons.

It recalled that the Coconut Grove Beach Resort and Conference Centre at Elmina was adjudged the Best Hotel in the Central Region by the GTA earlier in 2014.

"Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, Accra, was also adjudged the Best Hotel in the country by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) at its annual Ghana Industry Awards held in November, last year. At the same event, Groupe Nduom was also rewarded. The award was in recognition of Groupe Nduom’s contribution to job creation, development and growth of Ghana’s industries," the statement added.

The statement also stressed the commitment of management of the various hotels and the group in general to continue to offer excellent services to patrons, saying the award would spur them on in that regard.
