She explained that women must take keen steps to overcome the blockages impeding their progress across the corporate world by building expertise in their field of endeavors to be able to advance the leadership ladder.

Speaking at a forum dubbed Hollard Women High Tea in Accra, Mrs Ivowi stated that women must be result oriented because all smart leaders prefer intelligent individuals on their team.

“I believe that as women we need to build more experts in their field of endeavor in order to advance leadership positions and this would also remove the blockages impeding them from advancing across the corporate world,” she said.

The forum

On the theme "Embrace equity," the forum was held by Hollard Ghana to celebrate the contribution of women towards the growth of the insurance firm in the country.

It also created a platform for female workers of Hollard Ghana to interact among themselves while networking with the speaker and other guests.

Changing the narrative

To change the narrative, the CEO noted that women must embrace equity and seize opportunities to collaborate in common areas that could help resolve issues confronting women.

“Women should always work smarter. They ought to develop a work ethic that makes them sincere, motivated, artistic, resilient, tough, empathetic, and respected,” he said.

She underlined the need to adopt these professional principles to remain relevant and advance to the next prospect in the corporate world.

“Women must focus more on the ladder, or you are likely to fall. Rather focus on achieving results, and that will elevate you.

“We should also not let ourselves down and blame others for not letting you reach your potential. Failure allows you to grow; embrace it. Do not take an opportunity and squander it. This act affects women; do not let your gender down.

“To remain relevant, never stop developing yourself. But we should endeavor to marry a friend and a partner. Someone supportive of your career advancements,” she said.

The views of Mrs Ivowi were corroborated by the host of the forum, Patience Akyianu, who is the Group CEO of Hollard Ghana, for encouraging women in the country.
