China pledges more support for Ghana

Vice-President Amissah-Arthur

China has expressed satisfaction with the government’s interventions to improve the lot of Ghanaians and pledged to support those endeavours.

“The President of China has outlined his vision for Africa and is aware that Ghana is implementing a Better Ghana agenda. I am confident that the cooperation between the two countries will help promote programmes for the mutual benefit of the people,” the Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)  said.

Mr Ma Biao made the commendation when he led a high-powered delegation of the conference to call on the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, at the Flagstaff House in Accra yesterday.

Mr Ma is leading a 10-member delegation on a three-day working visit to the country.

The delegation, which arrived in the country last Sunday, is using the visit to deepen China's bilateral relations with Ghana.

Mr Ma commended the level of growth of Ghana’s economy over the past three years, saying “We commended you for that achievement”.

“Our cooperation has produced a lot and we have to build on this. We hope this visit will enhance that cooperation and send it to higher heights,” he stressed.

Mr Amissah-Arthur, for his part, traced the bond of friendship between the two countries to the era of Ghana’s independence.

He said Ghana’s relationship with China transcended economic gains, adding “Our co-operation is not just on the economic front but political, social as well as cultural.”

He mentioned the construction of the National Theatre and the Ministry of Defence, among others, as some of the infrastructure that had resulted from China’s cooperation with Ghana.

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, stated that Ghana would ensure that the relationship between the two countries worked for the benefit of the their people.

He said it was as a result of the collaboration between the two countries that Ghana’s Parliament benefitted from computers and other Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment.
